2020

Free workshops teaching how to crochet Birds Nests and how to sew Joey Pouches for the wider community. The nests and pouches are donated to the Fund For WildLife Victoria.

2019
  • We made Birds Nests and Marsupial Pouches, and donated them the ARC Guild.

  • We organised our first and very successful Fabric and Haberdashery Market as a major fundraising event.

  • We organised our annual craft and sewing workshop with Lenterna/United care’s Asylum Seeker Project.

  • Our group members sew items to sell at markets (such as Heidelberg Market and the Malahang Festival and Newlands Craft Market).

  • In June 2019 we organised an end of financial year fundraiser.

  • The sewing group organised a bulb fundraiser with Tesselaar Bulbs.

Past Activities

  • We made dog bandanas together with Enable (a social enterprise tackling disadvantage in inner-northern Melbourne).

  • We provided an after-school sewing and skills program for Brunswick English Language Centre and Moreland Youth Services.

  • Our group members sew items to sell at the Pepper Tree Place.

  • We organised school holiday projects for kids.

  • Faith, Food and Fabric Fun at Pepper Tree Place (Kildonan Coburg Kitchen Garden) for a Muslim Eid Celebration, created as one of a series of interfaith events by the Multicultural Women's Sewing Group and the Pepper Tree Place.

  • Private group sewing classes.

  • After school sewing classes with English language students.

  • We teamed up with the Moreland City Council for International Women's Day and made a beautiful quilt that we donated to the Oz Comfort Quilts appeal.

  • We helped the Australian Somali Women's Healthcare Community Foundation.

  • From 2012 the Multicultural Women's Sewing Group is happy to be supporting a Somali women's beginner sewing class.

  • Annet from the Pascoe Vale Spinners & Weavers joined us at the sewing group for show and tell.

  • The sewing group decorated three trees outside the Coburg Library to help celebrate the Coburg Carnival.

  • We worked with the after-school group on a quilt for youth day.

  • Ivanhoe Grammar students came to volunteer with us. Did a bake sale and sorted fabric, playing with the children.

  • We organised bulb fundraising with Tesselaar bulbs.

  • The group participated on the Sydney Road Festival.
